Hi, my name is Ana Sofia.
My usual workday evolves around HR consultancy and training assignments.
Everyday, I do my best to implement Nelson Mandela’s quote: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, both in my work and with my 3 kids.
But on my spare time (yeah, you know you also have it), you’ll find me between fabrics, patterns and vintage thrifts.
I consider myself a sewer-in-training and this blog is my attempt to document my journey.

Olá, o meu nome é Ana Sofia.
Durante o dia divido-me entre projetos de formação e serviços de consultoria.
Todos os dias contribuo para tornar realidade a frase de Nelson Mandela “A educação é a arma mais poderosa que você pode usar para mudar o mundo”, quer no meu trabalho quer junto dos meus 3 filhos.
Mas as horas que me restam (sim, conseguimos sempre um tempinho a mais, certo?) são normalmente passadas entre tecidos, padrões e descobertas vintage.
Considero-me uma aprendiz na arte da costura e este blog é a minha tentativa de ilustrar o meu percurso/crescimento.

Eu tentei já por 2 vezes costurar e desisti. Tenho 2 meninas e sinto a necessidade de continuar a family history(minha avó e minha mãe costuram lindamente) e fazer vestidinhos personalizados senão únicos prás minhas meninas. Acho que isso não tem preço….sem contar que é mais um dom que pode ser passado a geração vindoura.
Gostaria imenso de aprender mais….but following the pre made patterns is not easy and I get so frustrated but…reading your posts made realize why I was doing it.

The mary janes were bough in a small shop in Spain (holiday shopping, lol). As for the fabrics, I buy the quilting cottons from online shops (fabric.com and hawthornethreads.com have great prices and carry some nice lines), apparel fabrics like seersucker, linen and voile is often bought from local fabric shops (and I also get great deals from Farmhousefabrics.com. They have a great service). And of course, Liberty picks come mainly from eBay bids 🙂

Os tecidos são comprados em diversos locais: Os Liberty na sua maioria vêm do eBay (imensa paciência e o senão de não ser facil conseguir os padrões/cortes que desejamos) e, quando não consigo resistir, de algumas lojas online (a minha favorita actualmente é: http://www.fabricstn.com/. Vielas, batistas e similares encontro em Campo de Ourique e na Avenida de Roma (não me recordo do nome da loja, mas também existe na Baixa) ou numa loja espanhola online (www.ratucos.com). Por último, adoro os stock-off e as ofertas do Facebook para encontrar algumas preciosidades (consegui um bom stock de bombazines, flanelas de lã e gangas deste modo). Apesar dos portes internacionais, por vezes também encomendo dos EUA – principalmente quando existem promoções que compensam os custos do envio. Espero ter ajudado. 🙂

Sabrina here from Student Designer. I know it’s been a while, but I finally started drafting patterns again, and I’ve not forgotten that I promised you free Student Designer patterns for life!
I just released the Secret Garden Tea dress in simplified versions with seam allowances and no drafting required, on both A4 and US letter.
If you’d like one/both (though your daughter is a bit big for them now! XD) I’ll send you them, but I’ve lost your email address. You don’t have to make the dress, but I like to stay true to my word, especially when you made such a lovely dress!
And I’ll be releasing women’s wear patterns this year too, which I will send you and it’s completely up to you whether you make them/blog about them
